MSC Cruises Details New Beach Destination in Dom Rep
MSC Cruises has revealed new details on Catalina Sugar Beach, the new name of a private beach destination on Catalina Island, which is just off the coast of La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Operated in partnership with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, the destination is undergoing a number of major enhancements and is set to open this November. It will host cruise passengers from both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as guests staying at Casa de Campo. MSC will begin weekly sailings from La Romana in November, with MSC Opera calling at the new Sugar Beach destination on every itinerary.
Sugar Beach will showcase the island’s natural beauty as a protected natural monument in the Dominican Republic. It will feature white-sand beaches and crystal blue waters, alongside new experiences and elevated amenities to create an ideal beach day — including comfortable daybeds and cabanas available for rent.
A signature open-air beach pavilion buffet will be the central dining hub of the island, offering both local specialties and international dishes. An adjacent shaded area will offer comfortable alfresco table seating. Two bars will also be found on property.
Shore excursions will also be available, with options including a catamaran exploration of the surrounding waters, snorkeling to see the flourishing marine life the island is famous for, boat trips to Isla Saona Island, and visits to the nearby Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón. Water sports equipment will be available for rent as well.
Those seeking a leisurely walk can take a stroll along the island’s picturesque pathway, which rewards exercisers with a dramatic viewpoint. Along the way, visitors can discover and learn more about the island’s diverse tree species and enjoy scenic views overlooking the beach and island landscape.
MSC Cruises will begin sailing from La Romana with stops at Catalina Sugar Beach in November, marking the first time the line has offered year-round southern Caribbean voyages. Explora Journeys will visit Catalina Sugar Beach on select Caribbean sailings.
