Viking Opens 2028-2029 Ocean Year With New Itineraries & Ships
Viking has opened bookings for its 2028-2029 ocean voyages. The new deployment includes more than 700 departures across 80 itineraries.
According to the company, the new cruise year represents its largest annual ocean deployment to date. The program includes sailings to 301 ports in 84 countries across six continents, with voyages ranging from eight-day itineraries to world cruises lasting more than five months.
What’s New for 2028-2029
The new cruise year includes two new itineraries Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage is a new 15-day voyage between Vancouver and Whittier. The itinerary follows Alaska’s Inside Passage and focuses on the region’s fjords, wildlife, remote landscapes and Indigenous heritage.
The second new itinerary, Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa, is a 16-day roundtrip sailing from Rome. It combines destinations in Southern Europe with calls in Malta and North Africa, including stops in Spain, Provence and Corsica.
Viking is also adding more departures of Japan Discovery, a 15-day roundtrip voyage from Tokyo. The itinerary circles Japan before crossing the Sea of Japan to South Korea, with calls in Niigata, Hakata, Sapporo and Shimizu, along with an overnight stay in Tokyo.
Four Ways Around the World
The 2028-2029 program also includes four world cruise options.
The flagship 142-day Viking World Cruise sails aboard Viking Vesta, departing Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 21, 2028, and arriving in London on May 12, 2029. The voyage visits 31 countries across six continents and includes 62 guided tours, overnight stays in 16 cities and opportunities to visit up to 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The route crosses the Panama Canal before continuing along the west coast of North America and across the Pacific to Hawaii, French Polynesia, New Zealand and Australia. From there, Viking Vesta continues through Southeast Asia and Africa before reaching Europe. Overnight stays are planned in Sydney, Singapore, Zanzibar, Cape Town and Casablanca.
The 170-day Viking World Voyage III extends the journey beyond London, adding 21 ports across Northern Europe and Scandinavia before ending in Stockholm.
Two additional options offer different starting points and lengths. The 153-day Viking World Voyage IV sails from Los Angeles to Stockholm and visits 37 countries, while the 125-day Viking World Discoveries sails from Los Angeles to London and visits 27 countries.
Optional multi-day overland experiences are also available during the world cruises. These include six-day programs covering Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and India’s Golden Triangle, as well as a five-day visit to Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Mira Now, Vega and Leda Next
The new deployment includes Viking’s newest ocean ship Viking Mira. The 998-passenger ship was officially named in Venice on June 1. She is now spending her inaugural season in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
Two more ocean ships are scheduled to join the fleet during the 2028-2029 period. Viking Vega is due in 2028, followed by Viking Leda in 2029. Both are planned at 54,300 gross tons, with accommodations for 998 passengers in 499 all-veranda staterooms.
The fleet is set to continue expanding beyond these ships. When Viking took delivery of Viking Mira in May, the company said it expected to receive nine additional ocean ships through 2031, alongside 24 new river ships by 2028 and two expedition ships by 2031.
