Royal Caribbean Names Godmother of Legend of the Seas

Over two months after debuting in the Mediterranean, Legend of the Seas finally has a godmother! Royal Caribbean has named retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson as godmother of the largest cruise ship in the world.

A pioneering leader, role model for women in service, and advocate for individuals and families balancing their careers and homes, General Robinson has spent her career breaking barriers as the nation’s first female combatant commander and former leader of NORAD and NORTHCOM. As godmother, she will join the maritime tradition of bestowing safekeeping upon the ship, its crew, and the millions of guests who will sail upon her.

“I am deeply honored to be named godmother of Legend of the Seas and take part in such a special tradition for Royal Caribbean alongside my family,” said General Robinson. “Throughout my career, I have seen the importance of bringing people together in pursuit of a shared purpose, and Legend creates those same connections for families and loved ones. Having the ship’s naming ceremony on Veterans Day makes this especially meaningful to me, and I look forward to recognizing the generations of men and women who have served.”

Legend of the Seas debuted this past July in the Mediterranean, and is currently operating seven-night voyages out of Barcelona and Civitavecchia, which is the port for Rome. At the end of October, the ship will embark on a transatlantic journey to Fort Lauderdale, where she will be officially named and christened during a Veterans Day ceremony on November 11.

From Port Everglades, the ship will begin a schedule of six-night western Caribbean and eight-night southern Caribbean voyages.

Highlights of the newest Royal Caribbean mega ship include the immersive Royal Railway – Legend Station dining experience, the multi-course Hollywoodland Supper Club, the Crown’s Edge part-skywalk, part-zip line attraction, America’s Got Talent LIVE show, seven swimming pools, and the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” theater production show.
