Wave Season Nears End; How Long Will Deals Hold?

As March begins, the cruise industry is entering the final stretch of Wave season. The three-month period from January through March is when cruise lines traditionally roll out many of their most attractive promotions. Most cruise lines combine fare discounts with perks designed to enhance the overall trip.

For many passengers, this final stretch can feel like the last chance to take advantage of current deals before spring pricing takes hold. At the same time, the broader environment surrounding travel has grown more complicated. Rising fuel prices, geopolitical tensions, and mixed economic signals are part of the conversation right now. These factors can influence travel planning, even if their long-term impact remains unclear.

What Cruise Lines Are Offering Right Now

Discounted fares remain one of the most visible incentives. Some cruise lines advertise savings of up to 35 or 40 percent on select sailings. Larger mainstream operators such as Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Princess Cruises often highlight these headline discounts.

Other brands lean more heavily on added value. Instead of focusing primarily on price cuts, they emphasize perks such as onboard credit, airfare offers, hotel stays, or bundled amenities like drinks packages and Wi-Fi.

Premium and luxury operators including Oceania Cruises, Seabourn, and Explora Journeys often take this approach. Their promotions tend to highlight inclusions that enhance the overall travel experience.

Another dynamic this season is how cruise lines manage urgency. In some cases, the core promotion remains the same while booking deadlines shift. Several cruise lines refresh those deadlines every week or two. The tactic encourages travelers to book sooner without launching entirely new offers.

On the other end of the spectrum, several cruise lines are already advertising offers that extend beyond the end of the official three-month window. Lines such as Riviera Travel and Paul Gauguin Cruises have booking deadlines that stretch further into the spring, which could suggest that some brands are already moving on.

Wave Season Enters Its Final Phase

Looking beyond individual promotions, the broader pattern across the season is one of stability. Cruise lines are still marketing their Wave offers, but the pace of new campaigns has slowed.

Instead of launching dramatically different deals, many companies are extending existing promotions. Others simply refresh booking deadlines.

Many of the same offers remain in place. Cruise lines appear to be refreshing deadlines rather than rewriting the deals.

So far, there has been little sign of the deeper late-season discounts that sometimes appear as Wave season winds down. Instead, cruise lines appear to be holding the line on existing promotions while watching booking trends closely.

The next few weeks should reveal whether booking momentum carries into the spring.

Looking Ahead

With only a few weeks remaining in the official Wave season, the next stretch of the calendar will offer important clues about the year ahead.

If booking demand remains strong, cruise lines may allow current promotions to end as planned and move into the typical spring pricing cycle. In that scenario, Wave season will have done exactly what it is designed to do: generate a large share of early bookings for the year.

But the broader environment remains difficult to read. Energy prices, geopolitical tensions, and shifting economic signals all create a backdrop that could influence how travelers make—or unmake, or delay—travel decisions in the months ahead.

For now, cruise deals appear steady as Wave season winds down. You can see our latest coverage of Wave season 2026, as well as FAQs, at our Wave Deals Hub.

Whether that stability holds through the spring—and how cruise lines respond if conditions change—may become clearer in the weeks ahead.
