MSC Group Breaks Ground on New Luxury Island, Sandy Cay

Construction on MSC Group’s second private Bahamian island is officially underway! The company celebrated the official groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Cay, a luxury retreat located adjacent to its existing private island Ocean Cay.

The ceremony marks an important step in the development of the destination, where construction and site works are already well underway ahead of its targeted opening in 2028. Representatives from MSC Group’s Cruise Division, government officials from the Bahamas, and key project stakeholders gathered for the ceremony to commemorate the milestone. Attendees included Mr. Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the MSC Group’s Cruise Division and The Hon. Philip Davis, KC, MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

About Sandy Cay

Sandy Cay was first announced in April 2026, and is being developed exclusively for MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys passengers. It’s being designed to complement Ocean Cay by offering a distinct, intimate, and elevated luxury experience.

Focused on wellness and enjoying the natural surroundings, Sandy Cay will bring visitors into a secluded island escape with pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. It will offer upscale dining, spaces to relax and unwind, private retreats, and attentive service.

Ocean Cay Upgrades

Ocean Cay will also be receiving some updates. Visitors can look forward to enhancements including additional dining venues, new beach concepts for families and adults, expanded relaxation areas, and new immersive experiences that allow guests to engage more deeply with marine conservation.
