TUI River Cruises Pairs a Danube Sailing With the Hungarian Grand Prix
TUI River Cruises has put its first racing themed sailing on sale. From River to Racetrack departs Budapest on July 26, 2027, aboard TUI Maya, spends seven nights on the Danube with calls at Bratislava and Vienna, then returns to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Three days of seated grandstand tickets and return transfers to the Hungaroring circuit are included in the fare. Prices start at ÂŁ2,299 per person, based on two adults sharing a Deck 1 Standard Cabin on a Full Board Plus basis, with return flights from London Gatwick included. The sailing returns to Budapest on August 2, 2027, and has been on sale since October 26, 2026.

Katy Berzins, Head of River Cruise at TUI River Cruises, said the sailing reflects growing demand for holidays built around major sporting and live events.
The itinerary: Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, then back to Budapest
The itinerary is a round trip from Budapest. Guests fly into Budapest on day one and embark TUI Maya there. Day two brings a call at Bratislava, followed by two days in Vienna on days three and four. The ship then returns to Budapest for the rest of the sailing, remaining there through the Grand Prix weekend before guests disembark on August 2.
That structure is the point of the product: guests unpack once and use the ship as a base in Budapest for practice on Friday, July 30, qualifying on Saturday, July 31, and the race on Sunday, August 1. Guests who prefer sightseeing can stay in Budapest independently instead, although race tickets cannot be removed or refunded.
What the Grand Prix package includes
Each guest receives a seated grandstand ticket covering all three days of the race weekend, in either the Grid 1 or Grid 2 grandstand. Return transfers between the ship and the Hungaroring circuit are included on all three days, members of the TUI River Cruises team will be at the track to provide support, and if the race is delayed, transfers wait until the race has finished. Seats are allocated by TUI, which states that it cannot take requests for specific seats or a specific grandstand. A guest speaker will also sail aboard TUI Maya to offer insights into the sport, although TUI has not yet named the speaker.
The headline fare covers more than the cruise and the race. It includes TUI Airways flights from London Gatwick to Budapest on July 26, 2027, 23 kilograms of luggage per person, airport transfers, gratuities, and service charges. Full Board Plus comes as standard, which means meals plus tea, coffee, soft drinks, and wine or beer with meals, with an All Inclusive upgrade available.
TUI states that From River to Racetrack is independently organised and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official partner of the Hungarian Grand Prix, and it is not an official Formula 1 product.
Aboard TUI Maya
TUI Maya is one of the line’s three original ships and carries 155 passengers in 79 cabins across four decks. The ship measures 135 metres long and has a crew of 40. On board are two restaurants and two bars with no fixed dining times, a Wellness Area, nightly shows in the main lounge, The Observatory, and a top deck with minigolf, giant Jenga, and a barbecue area. The line operates an adults only fleet in Europe.
How it compares with a standard Danube sailing
The racing theme carries a clear premium over the same ship’s standard Danube product, but the comparison needs care. TUI Maya’s seven night Magical Danube itinerary lists from ÂŁ1,365 per person for March to October 2027 sailings, while From River to Racetrack starts at ÂŁ2,299 per person, ÂŁ934 more at lead prices. The fares are not like for like, because the racing fare bundles return Gatwick flights, three days of grandstand tickets, and track transfers, while the standard lead price is presented without that bundle spelled out.
The sailing also fits a wider trend toward themed river cruising, with Emerald Cruises running Mah Jongg themed Danube sailings in August 2027 and Celebrity River Cruises opening its inaugural Danube and Rhine programme that year. TUI’s version stands out because the theme is a live global sporting event with fixed dates, so the itinerary is built around the race calendar rather than the other way around.
What to know before booking
The package as advertised is built around the United Kingdom market, with return flights from London Gatwick and sterling pricing, so travellers booking from elsewhere would need to arrange their own travel to Budapest and check what the cruise only terms cover. Prices were quoted on October 26, 2026, and TUI states that they are subject to change and have limited availability. TUI also notes that river water levels can change with the weather, and an affected sailing may see changed berthing, modified shore experiences, or sections completed by coach.
Even with those limits, the concept is easy to understand: a Danube cruise already visits three capital cities in a week, and this sailing adds a Grand Prix weekend in the city where the ship is already docked. For motorsport fans who also want a river cruise, that combination is the whole pitch.
