Traveler Mike Cheek from Puyallup, Washington, captured this grand view of a busy Port of Skagway in Alaska.

“We are on a 7-day cruise on the Caribbean Princess and we were taking an excursion over to Haines on the fast ferry when I took the photo,” said Mr. Cheek.

Skagway is the northernmost point of Alaska’s Inside Passage. As seen in the photo, the port of Skagway is a must-call on Alaska cruise itineraries.

One of the highlight excursions from Skagway is a scenic ride on the White Pass Summit Railroad. The train weaves past waterfalls and glaciers along its 20-mile, mountainside climb of nearly 3,000 feet, to unveil the forbidding, rugged terrain that once challenged thousands of Gold Rush prospectors.

According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), 1.71 million passengers took an Alaska cruise in 2024.
