HX Expeditions Launches Largest Kayaking and Camping Program in Antarctica for 2025/26 Season

HX Expeditions, the world’s oldest expedition cruise company, is set to transform the way travelers experience Antarctica. Starting in October 2025, the company will roll out the industry’s most extensive and innovative kayaking and camping program, offering more guests than ever the opportunity to paddle past towering icebergs or sleep under the polar stars.
With a staggering 188% increase in kayaking capacity and a doubling of camping spots (up to 60 guests per night), HX is not only scaling its offerings but rethinking how adventurers connect with the White Continent. “We’re not just adding more spots, we’re reimagining how guests experience Antarctica,” said Karin Strand, VP of Expeditions Development, a veteran with over 150 Antarctic voyages.
Highlights of the New Program
- Kayaking Capacity Boost: Expanded fleet offerings will support a 188% increase in kayaking opportunities, enabling a broader range of guests to participate.
- Camping for More: Up to 60 guests per night can now experience camping in Antarctica, with both tent and bivvy bag options.
- Solo Adventurer Friendly: New solo-accessible options remove the need for a partner in kayaking or camping.
- Two New Kayak Options:
- Discovery Kayaks: Inflatable, solo-use vessels ideal for calm conditions. Self-guided and language-neutral, monitored by safety boats. Price: €129 pp.
- Sea Explorer Kayaks: Sleek, hard-shell sea kayaks for guided, long-range paddles. Designed for pairs. Price: €199 pp.
- Innovative Camping Gear: New Scandinavian-designed bivvy bags offer a lightweight, low-impact way to sleep out in the open. Prices start at €350 pp (bivvy) and €429 pp (tent).
- Expanded Activity Menu: Guests can also choose from snowshoeing, polar plunges, and extended hikes, depending on ship capabilities and guest interest.

Smarter, More Flexible Operations
Abandoning the previous lottery system, HX will now use a first-come-first-served method for most sailings, with all activity bookings managed onboard by the Expedition Team. A pre-booking system is planned for future seasons. Activities remain subject to weather, with rescheduling or refunds available if conditions don’t permit execution.
Sustainability at the Core
All offerings remain fully compliant with IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators) guidelines. HX, a founding member of IAATO, emphasizes minimal environmental impact, wildlife respect, and preserving the continent’s fragile ecosystem.
A New Era of Antarctic Adventure
With this bold expansion, HX Expeditions is reaffirming its leadership in polar exploration. By combining cutting-edge gear, guest-centered programming, and a firm commitment to environmental stewardship, HX is setting a new standard for immersive and responsible adventure in Antarctica.
