Grand Hall Atrium, Stern Characters Revealed For Upcoming Disney Believe
The atrium statue and stern characters have been revealed for Disney Cruise Line‘s upcoming ship, Disney Believe. Claire Weiss, Portfolio Executive Creative Director at Disney Cruise Line, took to the stage at D23 (Disney’s biennial convention in Anaheim) over the weekend to share the news.
The Grand Hall
The Grand Hall, which is Disney’s term for its ship atriums, serves as a central gathering space for guests, and on each ship it’s themed to a different Disney story. Aboard Disney Believe, the Grand Hall will be infused with the spirit of exploration from Disney Animation’s Moana movies.
A bronze cast statue of Moana, accompanied by her companions Pua and Heihei, will be a focal point inside the venue. The overall space will also feature influences from the film’s South Pacific setting, which will be layered with artisanal Polynesian finishes that honor the cultural traditions of the region.
The Hull
During the Horizons: D23 Disney Experiences Showcase, Weiss also revealed details on Disney Believe‘s exterior hull. Each new Disney ship features its own unique character artwork on the hull, with 3D character statues hitching a ride on the vessel’s stern. On Disney Believe, the stern characters will be Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s Toy Story films.
The duo will appear working together to etch the ship’s name across the back of the vessel with large yellow crayons. In place of the classic looped calligraphy seen stamped across the rest of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, Woody and Buzz will use playful lettering that mimics Toy Story‘s famous block-style font.
Disney Cruise Line also revealed that Disney Believe‘s bow will be decorated with a delicate, hand-painted filigree of Tinker Bell as she first appeared in the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic Peter Pan. The fairy will be flanked by the silhouettes of Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook, and other characters from the movie flying amid the swirling design.
“This ship celebrates belief in magic, family, the power of nature, and belief in yourself,” Claire told the audience. “And all the stories we tell onboard will be tied together by the core Disney notion of believing in something fantastical.”
Not much else is yet known about Disney Believe, which will be the fourth ship in Disney’s Wish-class. The line will be hosting a livestream event this October to reveal lots of new details about the vessel.
