French Waterways Launches Exclusive Bordeaux Barge Voyage for 2026 Season

Exclusive Wine-Country Itinerary Pairs Canal Travel With Château d’Yquem, Michelin-Starred Dining, and Armagnac Tastings

French Waterways has introduced a limited-charter barge itinerary along the Canal de Garonne for the 2026 season, offering guests access to some of Bordeaux’s most closely held wine estates alongside Michelin-starred dining and a private chef aboard the hotel barge Saint Louis.

Hotel barge traveling through a French canal lock surrounded by countryside

The six-night all-inclusive charter runs between Sérignac-sur-Garonne and Castets-en-Dorthe, covering the wine regions of Saint-Émilion, Sauternes, and the surrounding Garonne countryside. Available on select dates from May through October, pricing starts at $36,000 for four guests and $42,000 for six.

The Itinerary

Each day includes a chauffeured excursion to one of the region’s notable properties. Guests visit Château d’Yquem, the Sauternes estate ranked Premier Cru Supérieur, the highest classification in the 1855 classification of Bordeaux. They also tour Château La Gaffelière, a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in Saint-Émilion, and meet with Vignobles et Châteaux, a Saint-Émilion négociant known for access to rare and mature bottles.

Dining options include a Michelin-starred lunch at either La Table de Pavie, where chef Yannick Alléno oversees the kitchen, or Logis de la Cadène, a Saint-Émilion restaurant with a cellar-focused menu.

Beyond wine, the itinerary includes a visit to a fourth-generation Armagnac estate, where guests can assemble and hand-label a personalized bottle. A morning at the Casteljaloux market with the Saint Louis’ chef rounds out the food-focused programming.

Two cultural stops add variety: the Latour-Marliac lily gardens at Temple-sur-Lot, where Claude Monet sourced water lilies for his paintings at Giverny, and the village church at Le Mas d’Agenais, which holds a painting of “Christ on the Cross” attributed to Rembrandt.

Aboard the Saint Louis

The barge has three staterooms, a salon with an open bar, and a sundeck. A chef prepares daily menus using seasonal produce sourced partly during the Casteljaloux market visit. The cellar stocks Grand Cru Classé wines paired to the onboard menu. A champagne reception greets guests at embarkation.

For those who love fine wine and serious gastronomy as much as tranquil travel, this voyage is truly a unique experience,” said Rosie Mansfield, CEO of French Waterways. “We’ve curated a limited-edition itinerary that allows for rare access to tastings at legendary estates like Château d’Yquem, Michelin-starred dining and more.

Departure Dates and Transfers

Sérignac-to-Castets departures are available May 30, June 13, August 22, and October 3. Castets-to-Sérignac departures run June 20 and August 29. Transfers from Bordeaux city or Bordeaux Mérignac airport are included in the charter price.

The 2026 program is limited to six departure dates and carries a maximum of six guests per sailing, keeping group sizes small by design.
