Camila and Matthew McConaughey to Christen Star Princess in Fort Lauderdale
Princess Cruises has named Camila Alves McConaughey and Matthew McConaughey godparents of Star Princess. The power duo will lead the christening of the new 177,800-ton ship in a ceremony set for November 6 in Fort Lauderdale. The naming ceremony will also kick off Star Princess’ inaugural season in the Caribbean.
Princess framed the choice as a values fit. The line said the couple’s warmth and generosity mirror the brand’s focus on connection and celebration at sea. The announcement also underscored an existing beverage tie-in, noting Pantalones is featured in Princess’ Love Line Premium Liquors collection.
Love Line includes labels tied to celebrities and iconic names — like Pantalones Organic Tequila (Camila & Matthew McConaughey), Jean-Charles Boisset’s JCB Spirits, and Pitbull’s Voli 305 Vodka. Each spirit is available across the fleet, featured in specialty cocktails, and included in the line’s Princess Plus and Princess Premier beverage packages.
The McConaugheys join a roster of notable Princess godparents that has included Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren. The cruise line said the couple will “christen the cruise line’s most innovative ship,” carrying the Love Boat legacy forward.
Star Princess is the second Sphere-class ship, sister to Sun Princess. The 4,300-passenger ship actually debuts October 4, 2025, with an 11-day Western Mediterranean cruise roundtrip from Barcelona. Star Princess then crosses the Atlantic and begins Caribbean voyages from Fort Lauderdale on November 7, 2025.
