Royal Caribbean Moves Up Hero of the Seas Debut, Adds Two Earlier Sailings

Royal Caribbean has moved up the debut of Hero of the Seas, adding two sailings ahead of the ship’s original August 11, 2027 inaugural and making the August 1 seven-night cruise the vessel’s first voyage with paying passengers. The new sailings open for booking Wednesday afternoon, October 7, with Crown and Anchor loyalty members getting first notice at 8 a.m. ET.

Royal Caribbean Moves Up Hero of the Seas Debut, Adds Two Earlier Sailings

The change affects guests already booked on the August 11 inaugural, who can switch to an earlier sailing with change fees waived until October 14, and anyone planning to book. Hero is now the third Icon-class ship in a row to launch ahead of schedule, after Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas. The 5,654-guest ship will homeport in Miami.

The two new sailings

Both sailings depart from Miami ahead of the original inaugural:

  • August 1, 2027: A seven-night Perfect Day at CocoCay and Western Caribbean cruise visiting Costa Maya, Roatan, Cozumel and Perfect Day at CocoCay. This becomes the ship’s first sailing with paying passengers, ten days before the original debut date.
  • August 8, 2027: A three-night Perfect Day at CocoCay Getaway, a short sampler of the new ship built around the line’s private island in the Bahamas with a sea day on the return.

The original inaugural, a three-night Perfect Day at CocoCay cruise departing August 11, now becomes the ship’s third voyage.

What guests booked on the inaugural should know

Royal Caribbean notified passengers booked on the August 11 sailing by email: “The anticipation is building, and we simply can’t wait to welcome guests onboard in Miami, so we’re opening the door to an unforgettable adventure sooner than expected.”

Booked guests have three options. They can stay on the August 11 sailing, and no action is required. They can switch to the August 1 or August 8 sailing, with change fees waived through October 14, subject to availability. Or they can keep their original booking and add one or both new sailings for a back-to-back or multi-week trip. To give current booking holders first pick, all suites on the new sailings are being held until October 14 before they are released for general bookings.

Third Icon ship in a row to launch early

Royal Caribbean told booked guests that construction is progressing faster than expected. Hero follows Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas as the third consecutive Icon-class ship to debut ahead of schedule, a notable run given the scale of the class.

Hero also arrives with several features new to the Icon lineup. The ship will carry nine pools, which the line says is the most at sea, including Coconut Cove next to The Lime and Coconut bar and a second pool with a swim-up bar in the adults-only Hideaway area. Dining adds the New Orleans-themed Orleans Parish Supper Club, one of 28 venues. The Category 6 waterpark gets what the line calls the first funnel raft slide at sea, and the headline accommodation is the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-story suite for up to 12 guests with a rooftop terrace and private whirlpool.

Booking window details

The new sailings open for booking Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2026. Crown and Anchor Society members were notified at 8 a.m. ET. Guests booked on the original inaugural can move to an earlier sailing with change fees waived until October 14, with staterooms repriced at prevailing rates.

Questions About the Hero of the Seas Early Sailings

Do I need to do anything if I want to stay on the August 11 sailing?

No. Royal Caribbean confirmed that passengers who keep their existing booking do not need to take any action.

If I switch to an earlier sailing, do I keep my fare?

The change fee is waived, but the fare is not. Royal Caribbean said staterooms on the new sailings open at prevailing rates, subject to availability, so switching reprices the cruise even though the fee to change is waived through October 14.

Which sailing is now the ship’s maiden voyage?

The August 1 seven-night cruise is now the first sailing with paying passengers, ten days before the original August 11 inaugural, which becomes the ship’s third voyage.
