Azamara Cruises Reveals 2028 Renovation Plans For Azamara Journey
Azamara Cruises has announced the next ship that will receive Azamara Forward renovations: Azamara Journey. Azamara Forward is the line’s enhancement and modernization program, which is focused on upgrading every ship in the fleet.
The vessel is scheduled to enter a two-week dry dock on November 16, 2028, receiving a series of upgrades to further elevate the onboard experience for guests. Azamara Forward is bringing renewed energy to onboard dining, entertainment, and social spaces, while preserving the intimate, small-ship atmosphere that Azamara is known for.
Planned upgrades include:
- A reimagined Discoveries Restaurant
- A dedicated Chef’s Table experience
- A new Atlas Bar
- A transformed Cabaret Lounge
- A complete refresh to the Sanctum Spa
- Updates to staterooms and suites
- Other enhancements to public spaces around the ship

As previously announced, the Penthouse Deck will remain exclusive to Azamara Quest, and will not be added to Azamara Journey. The Penthouse Deck is a new 11th deck that will be constructed on top of deck 10 on Azamara Quest when that ship is renovated later this year. It will debut two new suite categories: the Panorama Suite and the Grandview Suite. The Sun Deck will continue to be an inviting open-air sanctuary on top of the Penthouse Deck.
“We’re continually looking for ways to elevate the Azamara experience while staying true to what our guests love most about sailing with us,” said Dondra Ritzenthaler, CEO of Azamara Cruises.
“Azamara Forward allows us to thoughtfully refresh our ships, creating inviting spaces for guests to connect, enjoy exceptional dining and entertainment, and feel at home between the incredible destinations they discover with us. We look forward to bringing these updates to Azamara Journey and welcoming guests aboard to experience them firsthand.”
Azamara Quest will be the first ship to receive the Azamara Forward enhancements later this fall. Azamara Onward is scheduled to go into dry dock for its own renovations in 2027.
Following Azamara Journey‘s renovations in 2028, the ship will launch with a refreshed look and feel on November 30, 2028 in Piraeus, Greece, setting sail on a 12-night Greece and Egypt itinerary.
