Costa Cruises Reveals 139-Day 2028 World Cruise With New San Francisco Departure

Costa Cruises has announced its 2028 World Cruise aboard Costa Deliziosa, a 139-day voyage spanning five continents and three oceans, with a 100-day segment departing from San Francisco that gives North American guests a way to join the trip without an international flight.

Costa Deliziosa World Cruise

The full itinerary leaves Savona, Italy, on November 25, 2027, and calls at 51 destinations across 29 countries before returning to Savona on April 11, 2028. The shorter San Francisco segment boards January 3, 2028, and follows the same closing route through Oceania, Asia, and Africa.

A Direct Boarding Option for North American Guests

The San Francisco embarkation is the headline detail for the U.S. market. World cruises typically require American guests to fly to Europe or Asia to join the ship, which adds cost and travel time to an already lengthy commitment. By opening a domestic boarding port, Costa is making the voyage easier to sell to North American travelers who want a long-haul itinerary without the upfront international flight.

Before reaching San Francisco, Costa Deliziosa will spend several weeks working its way through North America, including extended stays in New York and Los Angeles. The ship will also call at Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, plus San Diego, with a New Year’s Eve celebration on the California coast.

Celebration Key Joins the Itinerary

Among the more notable stops on the 2028 edition is Celebration Key, the new private destination in the Bahamas that Carnival Corporation is developing on Grand Bahama. This marks the first time the island will be open to Costa guests, giving the brand access to a beach-day product that has been positioned primarily for Carnival Cruise Line.

The destination features beach clubs, swim areas, and a shoreline of pale sand and clear water. Adding it to the world cruise lineup signals broader fleet integration of Celebration Key across Carnival Corporation’s brands.

Pacific, Oceania, and Asia Anchor the Heart of the Voyage

After Hawaii, with calls in Hilo and Honolulu, the ship sails into the South Pacific. Stops include Suva in Fiji and Apia in Samoa, followed by an extensive run through New Zealand that includes Tauranga, Auckland, and the Bay of Islands. Australia gets two marquee calls: Melbourne and a two-night stay in Sydney.

The Asia leg features a two-day stop in Tokyo, additional Japanese ports, a call in South Korea, and a transit through Hong Kong. From there, Costa Deliziosa moves through Southeast Asia with stops in Langkawi, Malaysia, and Phuket, Thailand, before crossing the Indian Ocean.

Indian Ocean ports include Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Mauritius. The voyage then traces the southern African coast with calls in Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town, followed by Walvis Bay in Namibia and Cape Verde. The return to Europe runs through the Canary Islands, Barcelona, and Marseille before the final approach to Savona.

Overland Programs and Onboard Experience

Costa is supplementing the itinerary with multi-day overland tours, including a Grand Canyon flight tied to the New Year’s Eve stop in Los Angeles, Māori cultural experiences in New Zealand, temple visits in Kyoto, and a five-day southern Africa land program.

Costa Deliziosa carries roughly 2,260 guests at double occupancy and is one of the smaller ships in the Costa fleet, which the line typically markets as an advantage for long voyages. Onboard features include Murano glass design elements, the Sunset Bar, and a rotating program of themed evenings, live music, and stage shows.

Booking Details

Bookings for the 2028 World Cruise are open now through travel agencies and at https://www.costacruises.com/. Costa is also still selling the final cabins on the 2027 World Cruise, which departs Savona on November 15, 2026.

“The 2028 World Cruise offers a 139-day itinerary crossing five continents and three oceans, featuring extended stays, exclusive overland programs, and iconic moments such as New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles and access to Celebration Key,” said Luigi Stefanelli, vice president of worldwide sales for Costa Cruises.
