Royal Caribbean Takes Delivery of Third Icon-Class Ship in Finland

There’s officially a new vessel in the Royal Caribbean fleet! The cruise line welcomed its third Icon-class ship, Legend of the Seas, to the family during a handover ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland on Wednesday.

Over 1,200 crew members and partners were in attendance for the event, led by Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm. During the ceremony, the team recognized the work of thousands of engineers, designers, architects, and crew members who brought the ship to life.

The delivery is part of a long-term agreement between Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku. The shipbuilder is currently constructing the fourth vessel in the massive Icon-class, Hero of the Seas, with a fifth to be delivered in 2028. Two additional Icon-class ships are also set to be built by Meyer Turku with scheduled 2029 and 2030 deliveries.

Legend of the Seas is the fourth ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas. It also features other industry-leading environmental programs, including applications ranging from waste heat recovery systems to shore power connectivity capabilities.
