New Bar Being Added to Oosterdam, Which Celebrates Holland America’s History
Holland America‘s Oosterdam will be debuting a brand-new bar dedicated to the line’s history. As part of Holland America’s Evolution renovation program, Bar 1873 will be added in the atrium.
Designed to bring Holland America’s history to life in a modern way, the two-story gathering place will feature an illuminated tulip sculpture, curated heritage displays, and comfortable lounge areas. Different ships will offer their own version of the venue. On Oosterdam, the theme will be ‘May She Be Blessed,’ honoring the maritime tradition of ship christenings and the godmothers who helped launch generations of Holland America ships.

The Ship’s Centerpiece
Bar 1873 is built around Oosterdam‘s central atrium on deck 2. The space is defined by an almost 10-foot illuminated tulip sculpture inspired by the Netherlands’ national flower.
Surrounding the tulip are over 200 heritage and repurposed objects, bespoke artwork, and a visual timeline tracing the company’s legacy. Vintage-style maps and custom artwork weave together Dutch cultural influences, maritime exploration, and the spirit of travel that has defined HAL for over 150 years.
The design also includes subtle tributes to the cruise brand’s past. Carpets are inspired by the movement of light across the ocean and include a centerpiece rug influenced by a clock in the main dining room of SS Rotterdam. The grand fireplace draws inspiration from Holland America’s original headquarters, which is now Hotel New York in Rotterdam.

Bar 1873’s Menu
Bar 1873 will build on HAL’s tradition of using beverage to tell stories. Inspired by the maritime tradition of ship christenings and godmothers, the menu will be anchored by a special cocktail called May She Be Blessed, named for the blessing traditionally bestowed upon a ship before it enters service.
Travelers will be able to personalize the drink with their choice of essence, creating a personalized toast. Alongside the signature cocktail, the menu will include modern interpretations of classic favorites, along with original creations inspired by the stories behind each Bar 1873 experience.
Holland America Evolution
As the largest fleet update in Holland America’s history, Evolution will revitalize all six Vista class and Signature class ships, starting with Oosterdam and Zuiderdam and extending to Arcadia, which will be transferred to HAL in 2029.
The program blends new venues and enhanced experiences with the amenities passengers already know and love, while introducing select elements inspired by the Pinnacle class ships.
Bar 1783 will be added to Oosterdam during the ship’s Evolution dry dock in fall 2027.
