Golfing Legend Colin Montgomerie to Join Hebridean Princess
Hebridean Island Cruises has announced that eight-time Ryder Cup player Colin Montgomerie will sail with guests on its Golf in Argyll & Ayrshire cruise in September 2026, giving travelers the rare opportunity to play golf alongside one of the sport’s most celebrated figures aboard one of Scotland’s most intimate luxury ships.
Four Days Alongside a Ryder Cup Legend

Montgomerie will join the seven-night voyage for four days, playing a round at Dundonald Links in Troon alongside guests, delivering an exclusive after-dinner talk, and personally presenting golf prizes at the final evening celebration. It marks one of the few instances where a World Golf Hall of Fame inductee will be available for informal, unhurried time with the traveling public on a cruise itinerary.
The cruise departs September 15, 2026, sailing round-trip from Oban with port calls at Port Ellen, Campbeltown, Troon, Lamlash, Loch Ryan, and the Isle of Gigha. Golfers will have access to six celebrated Scottish links courses including The Machrie, Machrihanish Dunes, Shiskine, and Portpatrick Dunskey, alongside Dundonald Links where Montgomerie is scheduled to play. Guests who prefer to skip the fairways can explore castles, gardens, and distilleries along the route.
Aboard the Hebridean Princess

The itinerary takes place aboard Hebridean Princess, the company’s flagship 48-guest vessel and one of the most storied small ships in Scottish waters. The ship was twice chartered by Queen Elizabeth II for private family holidays and has long been recognized for its attentive personal service, fine dining, and the quiet atmosphere of a country house hotel at sea.
Prices for the Golf in Argyll & Ayrshire cruise start at £5,465.50 ($7,327.90) per person, an all-inclusive rate covering meals and drinks, all golf activities, guided shore excursions, bicycle use, gratuities, Wi-Fi, and private coach transfers from local airports and train stations. Secure parking at the port is also included.
About Montgomerie

Montgomerie is widely regarded as one of Europe’s greatest golfers. Over a career spanning several decades, he won 57 tournaments worldwide, including three Senior Majors. He captained Europe to a landmark victory at the 2010 Ryder Cup and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He remains one of the sport’s most recognized ambassadors and one of Scottish golf’s most prominent figures.
A Niche Segment, a Premium Offering
Hebridean Island Cruises has operated luxury small-ship voyages through the Scottish Highlands and islands for more than 35 years. Its fleet of three ships, each accommodating between 38 and 50 guests, is built entirely around Scotland-focused itineraries. The addition of a celebrity golfer with Montgomerie’s profile to a sailing this intimate represents a significant value proposition in the golf travel niche, where access and exclusivity are the primary selling points.
For travelers who want to play Scotland’s links courses without the crowds and logistics of a traditional golf trip, the combination of private access, a curated itinerary, and four days alongside a Ryder Cup champion positions this cruise as one of the more compelling golf travel options available for autumn 2026.
