Silver Shadow, Anchored at St. Barths

Heard Along the Promenade Deck

Continuity! With great good fortune, I’ve now been lecturing on the gold-plated ships of Silversea for some 25 years, beginning with a Mediterranean trip (from Barcelona going eastward to Istanbul) back in the summer of 2000. Then it was the Silver Wind and celebrities Bob Newhart and Don Rickles were among the passengers. And today, I’ve logged 20 or so Silversea trips (on itineraries from Belfast to Bangkok to Bermuda) – and, in quick count, it is my 5th or 6th trip on the beautiful Silver Shadow. The Italian-built ship has been aptly defined as being “elegant and relaxed”.

On this wait-listed sailing with 350 or so guests being looked after by 300 seemingly handpicked staff, there’s a sense of quiet luxury – a 1-to-1 ratio. So, yes, they all but chew the food for you! Fine dining, a pillow concierge and throw a white-gloved butler for everyone. It is all quite indulgently wonderful!

One fellow traveler on her 45th Silversea cruise noted: “Silversea [now owned by mighty Royal Caribbean] is the perfect fit for a refined, personalized cruise experience – with a focus on great comfort and fine service!”
