Viking Announces Names of Two New Ocean Cruise Ships

Earlier this week, Viking announced the names of its next two ocean cruise ships: Viking Leda and Viking Vega. Set to debut in 2028 and 2029, respectively, the vessels are being built by Viking’s longtime shipbuilding partner Fincantieri.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the two ships will have a similar design to Viking’s other ocean ships. Highlights include an aft infinity pool, modern-yet-cozy Scandinavian-inspired interiors, a main pool deck with a retractable roof, and all-balcony staterooms and suites.

Viking has published deck plans for Viking Leda, which provides a look at onboard venues and layout. Highlights will include Manfredi’s, an Italian restaurant included in the cruise fare, as well as The Nordic Spa with included thermal area that has a snow room, sauna, steam room, thalassotherapy pool, and more. Also onboard will be the Torshavn lounge, the light-filled Wintergarden area where afternoon tea is served, and the Explorers’ observation lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows. Viking Vega is expected to have largely the same layout and venues.

Viking Leda and Viking Vega have been designed around Viking’s slightly larger ocean ship design, coming in at around 54,300 gross tons with the ability to accommodate 998 guests in 499 staterooms. They will be the 17th and 18th ocean ships built for Viking at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy.

Prior to their debuts, Viking will welcome three more ocean ships to its fleet: Viking Libra in December 2026, Viking Astrea in June 2027, and Viking Lyra in May 2028. Beyond Viking Leda and Vega, two additional Viking ocean ships are on order with Fincantieri.

Viking Leda is scheduled to debut in the Mediterranean, offering a slate of eight to 16-night cruises out of Spain, Greece, and Italy. Viking Vega will also spend its inaugural season in the Mediterranean, then head to northern Europe in summer 2029.
