Century Cruises’ New Flagship Century Vision Brings a Bigger Ship and Family Suites to the Yangtze

Century Cruises will introduce Century Vision, its newest Yangtze River ship, in 2026. It’s the biggest addition in years to a fleet that has mostly grown one incremental upgrade at a time.

The new ship will sail the line’s signature four-day route between Chongqing and Yichang, the same itinerary run by several existing Century vessels, in both directions. It spans seven passenger decks, runs nearly 150 meters long, and carries a gross tonnage of 15,000 tonnes, with room for up to 650 guests across 236 cabins, most with private balconies.

A Meaningful Jump in Scale

That capacity is well ahead of Century Legend, the line’s current flagship, which holds up to 398 passengers in 196 cabins. Century Cruises hasn’t said whether Century Vision will replace a ship in the existing Three Gorges rotation or sail alongside it.

River ships on the Rhine or Danube typically carry well under 200 passengers across no more than four decks. Yangtze vessels like Century Vision are built closer to a small ocean ship, which is part of why the capacity numbers here look so different from what European river cruisers are used to.

Family Cabins Are the Real Headline

The more notable detail in Century Cruises’ announcement is a family cabin design the line calls a “cabin within a cabin“: a single stateroom with a built-in sleeping area for children, instead of a connecting room booked separately. Dedicated family cabins that skip the connecting-room requirement are still uncommon on river ships. It’s the one feature here that actually sets Century Vision apart from other Yangtze ships. Most of the rest of the amenity list, three restaurants, a spa, a library, a photography studio, matches what several competitors already offer.

Onboard programming includes a “Digital Museum Zone,” described as an interactive space for exploring Chinese history and culture, along with lectures, cooking demonstrations, tai chi sessions, and Mandarin lessons held in the ship’s theater.

David Fredericks, President and General Manager for The Americas at Century Cruises, said the ship “reflects Century Cruises’ long-term commitment to redefining luxury river cruising through innovation, exceptional hospitality, and authentic cultural experiences.

Part of a Broader Expansion

Century Vision’s debut lines up with two other moves by the 30-year-old operator: a new Europe-based ship, Century Star, launching the same year, and the company’s first Nile River cruises in Egypt, planned for 2027. Century Cruises has built its business almost entirely around the Yangtze until now. These three launches together are the broadest geographic push in the company’s history.
