Royal Caribbean Group Opens Alaska’s Largest Cruise Terminal in Seward
Seward, Alaska has a brand-new cruise terminal. Royal Caribbean Group, together with partners Alaska Railroad, The Seward Company, and Turnagain Marine Construction, recently celebrated the opening of the Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, with attending dignitaries including state representatives, the mayor of Seward, and more.
The new terminal replaced aging dock facilities that dated back to the mid-1960s. With 41,500 square feet of enclosed space and 27,000 square feet of open, pass-through space, it is now the largest cruise terminal in Alaska. The state-of-the-art facility will enhance visitor experiences by prioritizing passenger flows, providing efficient passenger processing, and offering sheltered queuing areas.
Adding additional convenience, the terminal is located directly adjacent to the Alaska Railroad station, providing easy onward travel to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and the broader communities of Alaska.

The modernization of the pier also included a shore power system, which will result in cleaner air and reduced noise. Any excess power generated during the winter months will be stored in battery systems and serve as a backup power grid for the city of Seward.
Built for year-round operations, the terminal now serves as the community’s largest indoor space. It will be multi-purpose, hosting recreational sports, concerts, festivals, and other community gatherings amidst winter weather conditions during the cruise off-season.
The space was inaugurated for that purpose when Royal Caribbean Group invited the Seward community to help celebrate the culmination of their Port Partners small business accelerator program. Through the program, a standout business called Exit Glacier Greenhouses received a $20,000 grant to help scale operations, representing Royal Caribbean’s commitment to economic development in coastal communities.
Royal Caribbean Group has a total of nine ships sailing in Alaska this year: four from Royal Caribbean International, three from Celebrity Cruises, and two from Silversea. Of those nine ships, four feature itineraries that are scheduled to visit Seward in 2026.
