Holland America Plans $500M Upgrade for Vista & Signature Class Ships

Holland America Line has announced its largest fleet upgrade in its 153-year history. The multiyear program will bring new venues, updated accommodations, and refreshed public spaces to six ships.

Called ‘Holland America Evolution,’ the initiative focuses on the line’s Vista and Signature Class vessels. Holland America said the goal is to expand onboard choice and bring more features from its newer Pinnacle Class ships across the fleet.

In an email, President Beth Bodensteiner described the program as “the largest fleet update in our history.” She added that the transformation is “crafted to feel both premium and personal.”

The line plans to invest more than $500 million for six ships, including Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam, Noordam, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Eurodam.

Up first will be Oosterdam. Holland America said enhancements will include accommodations, dining venues, and public spaces. The upgrades are scheduled to launch in fall 2027.

Familiar Favorites on More Familiar Ships

A key part of the program is expanding features that were previously limited to Pinnacle Class ships.

Among the first additions is the Grand Dutch Café. Holland America said the venue draws on European café culture and the brand’s Dutch heritage.

The company also said it will add 76 staterooms on Oosterdam. These include Solo Verandahs designed for solo travelers. The plans also include expanded suite options and new premium categories.

Holland America also said the Evolution program will include sustainability enhancements. These focus on waste reduction through material reuse and upcycling.

Holland America said additional details will be released in phases, including updates on the remaining ships, as well as future itineraries and onboard features.

Six Ships Set to Be Refurbished

The vessels included in the program were built between 2002 and 2010 and represent a significant portion of Holland America’s mid-sized fleet. Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Noordam are Vista Class ships. Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam are part of the Signature Class.

All of the ships were built by Fincantieri and continue to operate in key regions such as Alaska, Europe, and long-haul global itineraries.
