Viking Signs Order For Two New Ocean Cruise Ships

As Viking continues its rapid expansion on both the oceans and rivers, shipbuilder Fincantieri announced today that the line has signed contracts for the construction of two new ocean ships. This news follows the exercise of the option to order two additional ocean cruise ships, which was announced in April 2025.

Based on the successful vessels Fincantieri has previously build for Viking, the newbuilds will be constructed at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. They’re both scheduled for delivery in 2032.

Considered to be small cruise ships, just like Viking’s other ocean ships, they will accommodate 998 passengers in 499 cabins and each have a gross tonnage of about 54,300 tons. As is customary for Viking, the ships will be built according to the latest environmental rules and navigation regulations, and will be equipped with the most modern safety systems.

“Today’s agreement marks another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Viking and serves as a powerful testament to the excellence and industrial expertise of our Ancona shipyard,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri.

“Over the years, Ancona has proven to be an indispensable production hub for our Group, delivering highly sophisticated cruise ships that set the benchmark for technology, luxury and efficiency. Assigning these new builds to Ancona reinforces the strategic role of the site, supports high-value local employment and ensures long-term industrial continuity for our supply chain as we continue to shape the future of sustainable cruising.”

This latest order follows the contracts announced earlier this year for the construction of two new Viking expedition ships, which are scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2031. The line currently has two expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Polaris.

It also further reinforces a strong partnership between Viking and Fincantieri, which now encompasses a total of 28 ships.
